PAWHUSKA, OK – The Osage Nation officially ushered in a new era of leadership as officials elected in the June 1, 2026, Osage Nation General Election took their oaths of office during the 2026 Osage Nation Inauguration Ceremony. The ceremony marked the beginning of Principal Chief Joe Tillman’s administration. Calling it “the honor of a lifetime” to serve as Principal Chief, Tillman emphasized that his administration will be guided by action, accountability, and service to the Osage people.

“Leadership is about more than holding a title – it is about doing the work,” said Principal Chief Tillman. “That is exactly what I intend to do as your Chief.”

During his inaugural address, Chief Tillman recognized the shared responsibility carried by each branch of the Osage Nation government. He thanked the newly inaugurated Minerals Council for its continued stewardship of the Osage Mineral Estate, expressed appreciation to members of the Osage Nation Congress for their willingness to serve, and recognized the Judiciary for its steadfast commitment to upholding the Constitution and the rule of law. He also called for unity and collaboration across all branches of government.

“I see Osage people committed to the same purpose: strengthening the Osage Nation,” said Chief Tillman.

Officials inaugurated during the ceremony include, from the executive branch, Principal Chief Joe Tillman and Assistant Principal Chief John Shaw; from the judicial branch, Chief Justice Meredith Drent, Associate Justice Elizabeth Lohah Homer and Chief Judge of the Trial Court William Ladd Oldfield; and from the legislative branch, Michael Bristow, Alice Goodfox, Otto Hamilton, Eli Potts, Angela Pratt, Whitney Red Corn and RJ Walker.

The inauguration brought together leaders from across tribal, state, and local governments, reflecting the relationships that will be central to the Tillman administration. Attendees included Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt (Osage), Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols, Muscogee Nation Principal Chief David Hill, and numerous tribal leaders from across the region. Oklahoma State University President Dr. Jim Hess delivered the keynote address.

Chief Tillman highlighted several priorities, including expanding gaming opportunities within the Osage people’s ancestral homelands in Missouri, diversifying the Nation’s economy, creating new opportunities for Osage citizens, and building lasting prosperity for future generations.

Since the June election, Chief Tillman and his transition team have met with dozens of Osage Nation employees, listening to those who serve the Nation each day and gathering insight as the new administration prepares to implement its priorities.

Chief Tillman concluded his remarks by reflecting on the optimism within the room. “I can feel the excitement of a new beginning,” he said. “I can feel the pride that comes from being Osage. And I can feel the determination of a people who have never stopped moving forward, no matter the obstacles placed before them.”
