EL CAJON, CA – The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation presented $100,000 to four charities at the 35th Sycuan Cup Golf Tournament, held at Singing Hills Golf Club.
The tournament drew Sycuan leaders, event sponsors, and beneficiary representatives in support of causes ranging from environmental conservation and public safety to disability and social services. Each of the four beneficiaries received $25,000: Kumeyaay Diegueño Land Conservancy (KDLC), 4Corners K-9 Search and Rescue, St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, and East County Transitional Living Center.
“We are very grateful for your support, for your partnership and your commitment to making a positive difference here in San Diego County,” said Chairman Cody Martinez of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. “This tournament today is about much more than a day of golf. It is an opportunity for all of us to come together in the spirit of giving, friendship and service to our community.”
The two-day event began with a welcome party at Sycuan Casino Resort’s Retreat Pool & Cabanas. Participants gathered the following morning for the tournament, with breakfast and presentations from each nonprofit on their community work. Chairman Martinez presented the donations and offered remarks recognizing each organization’s efforts.
Now in its 35th year, the Sycuan Cup raises funds annually for nonprofits selected by the Sycuan Tribal Council. Past beneficiaries have represented a range of causes including youth development, arts, and healthcare.
