Gila River Indian Community Officials Sworn Into Office

SACATON, AZ – Stephen Roe Lewis and Regina Antone were sworn in as Governor and Lieutenant Governor, respectively, along with the elected judges in a ceremony held in the Community Council Chambers on Jan. 1.

Per the Constitution and Bylaws of the Gila River Indian Community, the elected officials, “shall take office the first day of January following their election,” in Article VIII – Tenure of Office.

Judge Kami Hart administered the oath to Chief Judge Anthony Hill, who then presided over the remainder of the ceremony by swearing in the associate judges: Sherri L. Cassa; Brianna L. Rhodes; Gwendolyn P. Morago; Charles W. Aragon; and Darren Pedro-Martinez.

Judge Hill then administered the oath of office to Antone as Lieutenant Governor, in her first term, followed by Lewis in his fourth successive term. Family and friends also attended the ceremony, which concluded with remarks by Gov. Lewis.

The inauguration for Gov. Lewis, Lt. Gov. Antone and judges will take place on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass at 2:00pm.
