MARICOPA, AZ – September was a month full of giving and service for Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino, as team members dedicated their time, energy and compassion to a variety of volunteer and remembrance events across the community. From hands-on service projects to remembrance walks, the team stayed busy making a meaningful impact throughout the month.
On Sept. 11, the Salute Business Impact Group (BIG) participated in the 9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk hosted by the Ak-Chin Police Department. This dedicated team of volunteers actively seeks to bring together Harrah’s employees who are veterans and veteran allies who embrace the core values of duty, honor and selfless service. The purpose is to cultivate a diverse and inclusive culture through grassroots efforts to assist veterans in various ways, including fundraisers, donation drives and volunteer opportunities.
On the same day, Hero, a team member-based volunteer program in which Harrah’s staff and their families make noteworthy and visible contributions to the community, participated in a 9/11 National Day of Service meal pack event at Arizona State University’s Mullett Arena in Tempe. Volunteers packed 367,500 meals for local families in need through organizations like the St. Mary’s Food Bank and United Food Bank. The event, which brought together hundreds of volunteers to turn remembrance into action, was a powerful service event to honor the lives lost on 9/11.
Other September activities included a Hero bake sale for the Alzheimer’s Association and a community blood drive with Vitalant.
“Giving back isn’t just about service – it’s about connection,” said Barbara Achten, Hero Committee Chair. “When our team members come together to support our community, they not only strengthen the bonds between each other, but also help build a better, more compassionate world around us.”
