Picayune Rancheria Announces Tribal Council Election Results

COARSEGOLD, CA – The Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians announced the results of its Tribal Council election held on December 6, 2025, and the official seating of newly elected Tribal Council members. The election filled four open council positions and marked the start of a new leadership term for the tribe.

The following tribal members were elected: Deann Kamalani, Elena Sanders, Tracey Hopkins, and Michael Wynn. With the completion of the election and seating process on December 22, 2025, the Tribal Council is now composed of Chairperson Deann Kamalani; Vice Chairwoman Elena Sanders; Tribal Secretary Marco Alcantar; Tribal Treasurer Denise McCombs-Esquivel; and Members-at-Large Hillary Hammond Battles, Tracey Hopkins, and Michael Wynn.

The newly seated council brings together experienced leadership and continuity, alongside new perspectives, as it continues to oversee the tribe’s governmental responsibilities, economic interests, and community priorities.

“Serving on Tribal Council is a serious responsibility, and I am honored by the trust our membership has placed in us,” said Deann Chairperson Kamalani. “This council is committed to working collaboratively, making thoughtful decisions, and ensuring that our actions today strengthen the tribe for future generations.”

Chairperson Kamalani also acknowledged the contributions of those who previously served on the council.

“We recognize and appreciate the service of the outgoing Council Member Melvin Espe,” said Kamalani. “His dedication and leadership helped guide the tribe through an important period, and we are grateful for the foundation he has built.”

In a joint statement, the Tribal Council emphasized its collective commitment moving forward:
