Oneida Nation Applauds WI Sports Betting Legislation

ONEIDA, WI – The Oneida Nation has said it welcomes the signing of Act 247 by Governor Tony Evers, calling it a significant milestone that reflects a strong and productive government‑to‑government partnership between the State of Wisconsin and tribal nations.

All 11 federally recognized tribes in Wisconsin expressed their support for the legislation, which authorizes statewide online sports betting under amendments to the existing gaming compacts. Tribal leaders emphasized that Act 247 reinforces shared economic goals while respecting tribal sovereignty and regulatory authority.

“Signing Act 247 is an important reflection of the collaborative, government‑to‑government relationship we continue to build with the State of Wisconsin,” said Lisa Liggin, Oneida Nation Tribal Secretary. “This law keeps sports betting revenue in Wisconsin and ensures economic growth by reinvesting in our communities and our state. By establishing a legal and regulated framework, Act 247 ensures that sports betting remains within the state rather than flowing to illegal or unregulated markets while maintaining strong oversight and consumer protection.”
