WAYLAND, MI – Gun Lake Casino Resort (GLCR) has donated $5,000 to benefit the mission of several West Michigan charities that are vital in combating food insecurity for many underprivileged area residents. The donation was provided to help with recent reductions in federal funds caused by the government shutdown. In addition, GLCR this year has given charities $30,000 in free slot play with winnings donated to their causes. GLCR also released details of the annual Stuff the Trailer donation drive.

“We are proud to partner with Heart of West Michigan United Way and other local charities to help offset recent reductions in funding,” said Brian Decorah, Senior VP/General Manager. “SNAP-related programs that combat the scourge of food insecurity is truly a noble cause that we are honored to support in times of need.”

Heart of West Michigan United Way was a recipient of these donations. They work with over 100 organizations across Allegan, Kent, and Ottawa counties, including food pantries, shelters, and emergency assistance programs. The organization ensures donations reach the people who need them most.

“We are so grateful to the Gun Lake Casino Resort for the generous support of the United Response Fund. This contribution comes at a critical time, helping to sustain food pantries across West Michigan as more families face growing challenges,” said Kevin Myers, Chief Resource Officer, Heart of West Michigan United Way. “In moments of crisis, it’s inspiring to see community partners like Gun Lake Casino Resort rise to the occasion and stand beside our neighbors. Their commitment shows what we can achieve when we stand united.”

In addition to Heart of West Michigan United Way, GLCR is also supporting key community pillars that reach thousands of West Michigan residents in times of need such as Kid’s Food Basket, Barry County Veterans Affairs, Safe Harbor Children’s Advocacy Center, and local domestic abuse shelters.

GLCR also hosts the annual Stuff the Trailer donation drive. Anyone 21 years of age and older may donate goods and receive up to $100 in free slot play every day this month. Players can bring donated items and a receipt to the GLCR Rewards Center to receive a free slot play voucher, available each day in November. Acceptable donated items include clothing, non-perishable food, household items, and personal hygiene products. After the donation drive has concluded GLCR and Gun Lake Tribe leadership and staff will deliver donated goods to West Michigan Charities.
