DURANT, OK – The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) held the swearing-in ceremony for Appellate Judge Fob Jones at the Choctaw Nation Judicial Center. CNO employees, CNO judges, and friends and family of the newest judge attended the ceremony. As an Appellate Judge, Jones will sit on a panel of three judges to address cases appealed from the District Court to ensure the Choctaw Nation code is applied correctly, fairly, and in a timely manner.

“I’m honored and humbled to be selected to serve my tribe,” said Jones. “My role as a judge will be to strive in all regards to issue fair and impartial judgment.”

Jones was selected by Chief Gary Batton and confirmed at the Tribal Council’s regular session in January. Chief Justice David Burrage conducted the swearing-in ceremony while Judge Jones’ wife and daughter held the bible.

Jones graduated from Oklahoma City University School of Law and has been practicing law since 1992. He lives with his wife, Tracy Smith, in Sulphur, OK, and still works the land from his family’s original allotment.
