TAHLEQUAH, OK – The fourth annual SkasdiCon will take place on November 8 at the Chota Conference Center inside Cherokee Casino, celebrating Native influence in pop culture. The family-friendly event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free for children 12 and under and for attendees in cosplay costumes; general admission is $10.
“SkasdiCon is more than just an Indigenous comic-con; it is a place we can all come together to celebrate the ways in which Native and pop culture are intertwined,” said Jessica Pratt, Cherokee Cultural Tourism Coordinator. “Every year, we look for ways to expand this event with more panels, games and artists, and hope the public will join us for another exciting year of SkasdiCon.”
More than 60 Indigenous artists will share their work at SkasdiCon, alongside film screenings, Native pop culture panels and a cosplay competition. The cosplay competition features five divisions with $4,500 in awards. Guests can also expect appearances from Gene Brave Rock, Ricardo Caté and Michael Paul.
Panels include discussions on how to make a ‘zine with Johnnie Diacon, a special presentation from Choctaw artist Kristin Gentry on fashion, and cosplay and storytelling through an Indigenous lens. Guests will also experience an expanded gaming area hosted by Warguts Esports, along with exclusive opportunities to play “Superhero Stickball” and “Roll for Indian Taco,” an interactive game where a roll of the dice determines the ingredients that build the ultimate Indian taco.
