Grand Traverse $4500 Cash Kindness
L-R: Leelanau Children's Center Board President Rita Wessels; Leelanau Children's Center Executive Director Heidi Kruse; Leelanau Sands Casino & Lodge General Manager Jesse Ward; and Leelanau Children's Center Staff Kristy Fisher.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Cash in on Kindness initiative began as a result of the national coin shortage, encouraging guests of Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel and Leelanau Sands Casino & Lodge to donate their change collectively to a local charity each month to make a difference in their Northwest Michigan community. The program has raised over $190,000 since it began in February of 2020.

The 2024 first quarter collections focused on area children, providing food and essential need items during the months of January and February. The March collection of $4,625.32 will provide 37 days of nutrition including breakfast, lunch, and snacks, or 18 weeks of preschool tuition for an under-resourced family to the Leelanau Children’s Center, which ranked among the top three percent of preschools in the State of Michigan and whose mission is to continuously strive for an inclusive and inspiring future.

Leelanau Sands Casino & Lodge and Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel are owned and operated by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
