WAYLAND, MI – Gun Lake Casino Resort (GLCR) supported Heart of West Michigan United Way’s Stuff the Bus Campaign through a $5,000 donation and staff volunteers. The school supply drive benefiting West Michigan students commenced on July 27 and concluded at an evening event August 6 at WZZM 13 studios. GLCR team members volunteered helping to carry school supplies and sort them for delivery.

“We are honored to support United Way’s Stuff the Bus campaign to provide young people in our community with the tools they need to thrive in the classroom,” said Brian Johnson, VP of Finance & Administration. “Gun Lake Casino Resort team members were thrilled to volunteer their time for such an incredibly worthy cause.”

Heart of West Michigan United Way’s Stuff the Bus campaign strives to ensure every student is “prepared, confident, and ready to learn.” The campaign involves collecting essential school supplies for students across West Michigan through generous donations, hosting collection drives, and volunteering time at events.

Ten GLCR team members volunteered time helping unload, carry, sort, and stock school supplies at a final campaign event hosted by WZZM 13. The supplies collected help teachers stock their classrooms to make certain students have what they need throughout the year. The campaign provides school supplies in Kent, Ottawa, and Allegan counties.

Gun Lake Casino Resort’s $5,000 donation provided 800 backpacks, with supplies, at an average cost of $20 per backpack. The donation was allocated through a collaborative process with Allegan Area Educational Service Agency, and 17 local schools were identified with the greatest financial need.
