LAWTON, OK – The Comanche Nation Housing Authority (CNHA) has been awarded a $1.5 million Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help improve existing homes for Comanche families across Southwest Oklahoma.
CNHA will invest the funding in critical home rehabilitation projects that make homes safer, more comfortable, and more energy efficient. The Housing Authority will also contribute an additional $165,000 through its Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) program, bringing the total investment to $1.665 million.
The project comes at a time when more than 200 homes in the Comanche Nation service area have been identified as needing significant repairs due to aging infrastructure, severe weather, and years of wear. Planned improvements include roof repairs, heating and air conditioning upgrades, electrical and plumbing work, foundation repairs, new windows and doors, insulation, and other improvements that help extend the life of existing homes.
In addition to repairing homes, the project will improve accessibility for elders and tribal members with disabilities while helping lower energy costs through efficiency upgrades designed for Oklahoma’s climate.

The grant supports CNHA’s ongoing mission to preserve housing, improve living conditions, and ensure tribal members have access to safe, reliable homes for years to come.
